Salient Māori News Items to 15 Whiringa-ā-rangi 2024

  • The Toitū te Tiriti (honour the Treaty) march is continuing to progress down the North Island towards Parliament (scheduled to arrive there next Tuesday). Thousands of people have already joined for parts of the hikoi.
  • Pharmac has advised it is disestablishing its Māori advisory group, Te Rōpū. (It was established in 2021 after an independent review of the entity that considered how well it meet the needs of Māori and Pacific communities.)  Board chair, Paula Bennett, says Pharmac remains committed to engaging with Māori and to its equity plan.
  • Anaru Mill has been appointed as the Acting Chief Executive of Te Arawhiti, starting next month.
